What's Included
See moreStraight Talk
We want to make sure you're on the trip that's right for you. Every Backroads trip is unique and this one is no exception.
On many nights, the gourmet restaurants where we dine offer specially prepared, limited or fixed menus featuring a delicious selection of authentic regional cuisine.
Amid Basque Country and the Pyrenees foothills, you can look forward to some great climbs and steep descents on our bike rides. If you want a boost, e-bikes are available and we can flatten some of the more challenging portions of the routes with strategic shuttles, but you should be comfortable handling hilly terrain or hopping in the van for a lift.
While we always aim to get off the beaten path, this region is a popular coastal vacation spot for European tourists. You’ll be among locals and fellow travelers when we visit towns, and there can be moderate car traffic on some of the country roads we bike on (cars in this area are very respectful of bikers).

Amazing trip!
What a great trip in every aspect. All the details were expertly taken care of by experts from the beginning u til the end. I highly suggest going on a Backroads trip.
Great Trip
Above and Beyond our expectations!
Basque Heaven
This ride and support was spectacular. I chose an E-bike for the first time in my life and am glad I did. Even though I road/gravel bike all the time, viewing the Ride w GPS elevation, I knew, would too much for me to do on repeated days. I am so glad I did as I was able to do the longer and higher routes daily. This entire trip was stunningly beautiful, epic food, wine and lodgings. I am really happy I did it. And the Backroads App was great.
Incredible Basque Biking
Wow, wow, wow! This was our first time going on a Backroads adventure and it did not disappoint! We were part of a private group that did the Premier Basque Biking tour, starting in Biarritz, France and ending in Bilbao, Spain. The leader team was composed of two leaders and a support leader (Gorka, Mathieu, Daniel), and all three were wonderful to work with. They were knowledgeable and patient, listening and addressing every question and request. They brought a wonderful balance of fun, patience, safety and information to make us all feel safe and informed at all times. The hotels were each unique and wonderful, and we had a wide spectrum of experience (from beach-side adorable town of St. Jean de Luz, to the incredible and lush hilly farmlands of French Basque country, to the rustic and medieval wine country of Spanish Basque country). The routes were incredible in their options, challenges, and truly felt like backroads (we had it to ourselves!). We also appreciated the variety of food experiences (from casual to elegant, family-style to plated, picnics to an adventure on your own). There are also optional cultural experiences (usually after riding and before dinners) that we loved, as you had an opportunity to learn about the region, local stories and try different things (e.g. cave wine tours/tastings, local speaker, local music). Our group had a wide spectrum of biking experience and the leader team accommodated this diversity with ease and comfort. Although I've casually ridden a bike for most of my life, I had never been on a road bike so I chose the e-Assist bike, which was the best decision I made. I ended up biking far more than I anticipate (often choosing the long and more challenging routes every day) and was able to bike and keep up with my husband (on a human-powered bike). The equipment is top-notch and well-maintained. We had the BEST vacation (not only because it was without kids!) because we were able to do the entire thing together

WOW! We will never forget this amazing trip!
Our leaders were perfect and made this trip really special! The route options were varied and beautiful, jaw dropping views. Loved every minute. Thank you Backroads for another memorable trip!
ANOTHER GREAT BACKROADS TRIP!!
We have just completed our 17th Backroads bicycle trip. Another excellent trip! Although we have never had a bad guide, our guides for this trip, Emma and Gauthier were superb and made the trip special.
