California Beaches & A-List Retreats on the American Riviera
Santa Barbara cool. If only we could bottle that luxurious laid-back vibe. We’d start with a bike ride through the Santa Ynez Valley, then drop in a relaxing massage. Stir in stops at boutique wineries and a coastal cycling route in the heart of the Ojai Valley. Infuse with exquisite meals, luxury hotels and finally, garnish with an unforgettable sunset. Quench your thirst on the American Riviera.
Highlights
- Explore California's "other Wine Country"—the back roads and authentic tasting rooms of the Los Olivos area feel just like Napa in the 1970s
- Cruise on two wheels down serene palm-fringed bike paths that spread out along the sun-kissed coast of Santa Barbara
- Choose from a wealth of diversions along the way—quaint towns, historic sites, a beach boardwalk and stunning views of the Pacific
- Experience the small-town charm of Ojai, where natural beauty and an independent spirit merge

BEAUTIFUL AREA - PHENOMENAL SUPPORT TEAM
The locations made this trip exceptional, and the support team made us want to do another. Shout out to Kri, Ian and Jess even in the midst of double flats on one day. The food was fantastic and the group was solid. Well, better get back to planning next year. HNY all.

Awesome trip
Bike riding in the Santa Barbara area was great, especially enjoyed Los Olivos and the Fess Parker Inn. Riding in the surrounding canyons was beautiful and the accommodations/food excellent. The Oman Valley was also beautiful although more warm this time of year. Still, the riding was great.

What a wonderful way to see the world, from a bicycle! Backroads makes travel so easy and FUN! The leaders are very accomplished, smart, friendly, and fit!! The bikes are always ready for the day, all you need to do hop on and follow your Garmin to the next amazing location. Meals are fantastic and fresh, a Backroads picnic is epic! If you take one Backroads trip you will be hooked and browsing through the catalog for your next great adventure!

Backroads Never Disappoints
Took our second Backroads trip and had a blast again! Amazing biking, incredible scenery, beautiful hotels and the absolute best tour leaders! Could not recommend this more. Backroads is our go to for all vacations and is worth every penny.
Exceeded Expections
Friends and family convinced us to sign up for Backroads for the first time. The Santa Barbara adventure was the trip closest to celebrate a milestone birthday. It was so wonderful it exceeded my expectations. We enjoyed so many elements of the trip. The four guides are great ambassadors of the organization. Their excitement and assistance in all forms helped make it a better trip. The resorts and inns were five-star. The meals, snacks and coffee stops were topnotch. All in all, it was a 10 out of 10! Since our return, we have also recommended backroads to others and look forward to booking our second trip.
Fantastic trip from start to finish!
Backroads does an amazing job accommodating all levels of cycling experience, providing a variety of food and beverage choices (whether on our own or with the group) and free-time options. Our guides did everything they could to ensure that everyone on the trip had a delightful experience, and they did it with energy, enthusiasm and a smile on their face. The accommodations were lovely and the food, delicious (and plentiful). We traveled country roads and ocean boardwalks, as well as some fairly heavily trafficked streets. Each day was a new adventure!
Overjoyed! Thankful to have had the best Thanksgiving ever!
Words cannot describe the magic and wonder of this exquisite trip! From beginning to end, it exceeded expectations. Beautiful part of our country that should be explored from a bike while amazing guides are handling all the details and lovely hotels and meals await you! It's a must do!

Did not meet normal Backroads expectations.
Did not have a dedicated/experienced bike mechanic which did make matters difficult for selected guests, especially those who were not bike savvy....found out in discussions with BR employees that pandemic and post-pandemic employee issues may have contributed to this....have been on 12 BR trips and this was the least enjoyable.
Backroads Guest Services
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback regarding your recent Backroads trip. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience you experienced, especially with the absence of a dedicated/experienced bike mechanic. While our leaders are trained to handle a broad range of bike issues, we regret they weren't able to address the issues that came up on this trip. We understand the challenges this may have posed, particularly for guests less familiar with bike mechanics. We appreciate your loyalty as a seasoned Backroads traveler with 12 trips under your belt. We genuinely value your input and hope you'll consider giving us another opportunity to provide you with the exceptional experiences you've come to expect from Backroads.
Wonderful Trip!
We thoroughly enjoyed this Santa Barbara to Ojai biking trip. Everything exceeded our expectations. Being from Florida, the cooler June California weather was a relief, but layering for biking was definitely key. The Inn in Ojai is within walking distance to town where there are lots of things to see. A fun thing to do in the afternoon after biking. Our leaders, Bryce and Lizzie, were outstanding in every way. They were fun to be around, helpful and totally organized. There were 9 in our group and it was a perfect group.
Beyond outstanding!!!
The entire experience was a 10; from the team leaders, premiere hotels, exquisite dining, beautiful cycling and loads of fun!!!
