Itinerary
Day 1
Kick off your two-country e-bike tour in the colorful Czech region of Bohemia • Explore Tábor, a 15th-century enclave sitting atop a hill overlooking the surrounding countryside • Stroll cobbled streets lined with colorful homes, open-air cafés and artisan vendors in the lovely old town • A clever maze of tunnels lies below the streets, which in times of danger were used to shelter its citizens.
Night 1
Set on medieval Tábor's main square, this hotel features guest rooms decorated with original artwork, antique furniture and ancient fossils. (spa)
Days 2-3
E-bike through tranquil farmland to the village of Holašovice, an impeccably preserved World Heritage site • Fall in love with Český Krumlov, a charming medieval town with twisting lanes, red-tile roofs and a 13th-century castle crowned by an iconic cannon-shaped tower • Enjoy vistas of the tranquil Vltava River, which bends around Český Krumlov and provides the view from countless bar and restaurant terraces before flowing onward to Prague • Dive into the country's fascinating history with our local guide and longtime friend • Gather at a local pub for a pint-sized taste of Czech culture.
Nights 2-3
Comprised of three historic buildings, this lovely inn is ideally located on the town's main square.
Days 4-6
Czech countryside gives way to Austria's beautiful Waldviertel (Woodland Quarter), where forests are punctuated by rolling fields of barley and wheat • Ride along the fabled Danube River, whose network of bike paths is perfect for sailing on e-bike from one waterside village to the next • In the Wachau Valley, hills are laced with vineyards and apricot orchards • Visit Melk, whose magnificent baroque abbey is perched high on a rocky promontory • A local winemaker invites us over for a private tasting of his family's famous Rieslings and Grüner Veltliners • Soak up the views from Dürnstein's castle ruins, where Richard the Lionheart was imprisoned • Savor Relais & Châteaux hospitality at our historic hotel • End in vibrant Vienna, an enchanting place to extend your vacation.

We want to make sure you're on the trip that's right for you. Every Backroads trip is unique and this one is no exception.
On this trip we spend two nights at the historic Hotel Ruže, a former Jesuit monastery from the 16th century, and two nights at Schloss Durnstein, a 17th-century castle. Guest rooms in these hotels are clean and comfortable, but smaller and simpler than the typical Backroads standard. We've chosen these properties because of their ideal locations and unique historic character.
