Luxury & Exploration in Ecuador’s Enchanted Archipelago
This plush vessel is no Beagle, but Darwin would recognize many of your discoveries as you sail in his footsteps. Here in the “Enchanted Isles,” ply crystal-blue waters to meet a who’s who of some of the most remarkable animals on Earth.
Highlights
- Welcome aboard the Silver Origin, where life at sea comes with next-level luxuries like floor-to-ceiling windows and a personal butler for each cabin
- Experienced national park guides lead us through surreal landscapes populated with lava lizards, ancient tortoises, curious iguanas and colorful birdlife
- Bike the back roads of the islands’ mountainous interiors, an experience few tourists get to experience
- Snorkel way out at sea—a perfect opportunity to meet rays, sharks and other denizens of the deep—then lay out on sugar-white sands (often with sea lion neighbors)
- A cooking class, a cocktail lesson and a tour of a local farm offer us delicious glimpses of the archipelago’s human side

Start/End Puerto Baquerizo Moreno, San Cristóbal Island

We want to make sure you're on the trip that's right for you. Every Backroads trip is unique and this one is no exception.
All meals are served aboard. On-ship meals, though delightful, are meant to appeal to a wide cross section of passengers and may at times feel more conventional and less reflective of the region than on Backroads Hotel trips.
The Galápagos Islands are subject to national park regulations. Mid-trip itinerary changes are quite common. If we encounter changes to our planned activities, your Trip Leaders will find alternative activities that you’re sure to enjoy.
Most hikes on this trip are remote and do not intersect with roads. Vehicles or boats will get us to and from the trailheads, but the nature of these trails is such that we won’t see our vehicles along the route. Ample trail support in the form of water and encouragement is provided by your Backroads leader and local guides.
Although the Galápagos Islands are part of Ecuador, they can feel worlds away from the mainland, with challenges including slow or nonexistent internet and ATMs possibly running out of cash. Service onboard our ship and at hotels and restaurants can lack a sense of urgency.
In contrast to our Hotel trips, which typically have similar room categories, the Silver Origin offers a wide range of stateroom categories from which to choose. The top-tier staterooms often fill fast, so book as early as possible if this is important to you.
Though the Silver Origin is built for stability, on some crossings and on the Zodiac rides that shuttle us to land you should be prepared for wet, windy conditions. Bring seasickness medication if you think you'll need it, especially in summer months when the waters can be a bit rougher.
