Itinerary
Days 1-2
Follow quiet paths along the ViaRhôna, an impressive 500-mile bike route that traces the Rhône River from Geneva to the beaches of Marseille • Lunch in the “Little Venice of Savoie" at a charming restaurant along the Savière Canal • Ferry across France's largest natural lake, Lac de Bourget • Hike through World Heritage sites in Massif de Bauges Regional Nature Park • At our picnic lunch, sample the local cheese, Tome de Bauges, with an earthy aroma and a sweet buttery flavor • Kids navigate through an exciting ropes course overlooking the pristine mountains • In Aix-les-Bains, a leading town of the Belle Époque era, enjoy Modern French cuisine amid stylish architecture.

With panoramic views of France's largest natural lake, Lac du Bourget, Hotel L'Incomparable offers elegant gastronomy, a luxury spa and warm hospitality in the heart of the Alpine Riviera. (pool, spa)
Days 3-6
Visit a traditional alpine farm where the younger set learns about cheesemaking • Meanwhile, adults bike through the Northern Bauges Mountains before a peaceful descent to glittering Lac d'Annecy • Savor panoramic views of the Aravis Mountain Range from our cozy retreat • Visit fashionable Megève, known for its fine dining, excellent shopping and 1,000-year-old church • Kids scamper about at an afternoon scavenger hunt • Hike out to the week’s most aerial views of glacier-carved valleys and majestic pine forests • Explore lush Col de Voza, a magnificent landscape nestled between Switzerland and Megève • Our final mountain ascent showcases panoramic vistas of the Avaris Range, Mont Blanc and the peaks of Savoie.

We want to make sure you're on the trip that's right for you. Every Backroads trip is unique and this one is no exception.
Our hikes through the Alps' captivating rugged terrain climb rocky and sometimes uneven paths, many of which are remote and do not intersect with roads. Vehicles will get us to and from the trailheads, but due to the nature of these trails, we won't see our vehicles along the route. Ample trail support in the form of water, snacks and encouragement is provided by your Backroads leaders and local guides.
Hiking in the mountains can mean quickly changing unpredictable weather, even during the warm and sunny summer months. Careful packing is essential for your comfort and overall enjoyment. Be prepared to carry multiple layers every day on the trip—warm base layers, a windproof/rain jacket and rain pants.
