Itinerary
Days 1-2
Hike with your family across rolling pastures and wildflower meadows in the heart of the Dolomites • Settle into the relaxed pace of mountain life in a family-run hotel located just below the dramatic "needles" of the Odle Group • Savor the warm and hearty flavors of South Tyrolean fare • Share the trail with pasturing farm animals and native species like ibex, deer and chamois • Learn about the region’s flora, fauna and geology with a local guide.
Nights 1-2
Located in the heart of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this typical South Tyrolean-styled hut provides comfortable rooms perched at the Seceda Alp.
Day 3
Traverse the enchanting meadows and lunar landscape of the Puez-Odle mountain group, a World Heritage park • Enjoy lunch at a rustic alpine refuge • Sip an Aperol spritz on the terrace of our welcoming retreat • Finish off your trek with gourmet Tyrolean cuisine and regional wines • Follow a trail to an outlook affording views of the Sella massif and Edelweiss Valley.
Night 3
Perched on a knoll below the Sassongher massif, this atmospheric alpine lodge with its cozy classic Tyrolean rooms features exceptional views from its sunny terrace.
Days 4-6
Take a family trek and admire the wildflowers and brilliant limestone massifs • Wander through the mountain hamlet of San Cassiano and experience the distinct language, culture and customs of the Ladin people • Hike on trails with panoramic scenes of glacier-carved valleys and limestone summits • Quaint mountains towns Corvara and Colfosco come to life as we journey through the region • Discover the region’s dramatic history at Passo Valparola, once the site of heavy combat during World War I.

A true mountain retreat with access to San Cassiano village, this lodge features spacious rooms and simple modern South Tyrolean architecture with balconies perfect for taking in sunsets and views of the Dolomites' limestone peaks.

Our accommodations for this itinerary have been carefully chosen to bring you an authentic experience in the Dolomites. These renovated traditional Dolomite lodges are located deep in the mountains to provide service to hikers. While not as luxurious as other Backroads accommodations, these properties offer warm hospitality, charm and character, in addition to modern comforts and amenities. If you request a double bed, please keep in mind that European double beds are often two twin beds adjacent to each other. On occasion, there is the potential to be assigned bunk beds. Single room availability is limited.
Our hikes through the region's captivating terrain are often on trails that do not intersect with roads. Vehicles will sometimes get us to and from the trailheads, but the nature of these trails is such that we won't see our vans along the route. Trail support in the form of water, snacks and encouragement is provided by your Backroads leaders.
