Nights 1-3
Natural wood design, stone features and lush surroundings are just part of the allure of this chalet-style alpine oasis, whose traditional charms are elevated only by its breathtaking setting. (pool, spa)
Days 4-6
Cross the border between Italy and Switzerland at high altitude, accompanied by sweeping views of the Matterhorn • A series of lifts carry you above alpine meadows and into rugged terrain • From postcard-perfect, car-free Zermatt, journey to our impressive hotel via the highest tram in Europe • Gornergletscher, a glacier with bright-blue pools and deep crevasses, is our destination for an exciting mountain trek • Keep your ears peeled—the ice field groans, creaks and rumbles • Relax at our mountaintop retreat and enjoy the panoramic vistas from your room, the terrace and the outdoor pool • Gather for a final festive dinner celebrating our alpine excursion.

We want to make sure you're on the trip that's right for you. Every Backroads trip is unique and this one is no exception.
Our hikes through this captivating rugged terrain climb rocky and sometimes uneven paths, most of which are remote and do not intersect with roads accessible by Backroads vans. In some cases our shuttles will get us to and from the trailheads, but due to the hard-to-reach nature of these trails, we usually won't see our vehicles along the route. Ample trail support in the form of water, snacks and encouragement is provided by your Backroads leaders and local guides.
