Get your first glimpse of the Scottish Highlands in Inverfarigaig as you walk an undulating mossy trail with endless views of legendary Loch Ness • Pop into a cozy pub for a Scottish ale or whisky.

Night 1

Days 2-3
Admire the lovely Loch Cluanie as we journey through the dramatic countryside • On the Isle of Skye, hike to forgotten beaches and ruins along the coast • Explore the deserted and haunting villages of Suisnish and Boreraig, while a local expert regales us with highland tales • Hop on a ferry to the magical Isle of Raasay, where local musicians play for us • Walk along stunning coastline and up to a high point with soaring vistas of the Cuillin Hills and the Scottish mainland • Summit Raasay’s largest peak, Dun Caan • From its flat-topped ridge, take in views of the Cuillin Hills of Skye to the south, the Trotternish peninsula with its craggy mountains to the northeast, the mainland town of Applecross to the east and the austere beauty of Raasay from its highest point • Enjoy a private tour and tasting at a whisky and gin distillery.

Nights 2-3
Located on the secluded Isle of Raasay, this cozy and charming hotel sits by the sea with fantastic views of the Cuillin Hills of Skye.

Days 4-6
Explore the nooks and crannies of Raasay’s main town, its secret beaches and gorgeous woodlands • At the pier, hop on a boat back to the mainland searching for seabirds and porpoises • Discover the Gairloch and Conon Estate, including its Flowerdale Glen, cascades and botanical garden • Keep an eye out for golden eagles and red deer • Coastline vistas unfold as we trek up to the Fairy Lochs—a series of small lochs in heather-covered moorland • Dig into a real local pub experience with fish and chips or perhaps you’re ready to try haggis! • Visit a falconry and learn about these impressive birds of prey • Cozy up by the fire with a proper pint in hand before a seafood dinner.

We want to make sure you're on the trip that's right for you. Every Backroads trip is unique and this one is no exception.
In order to truly experience the beauty and diversity of this region, we must cover some distances. On most days we spend 1 to 2 hours in the shuttle (and sometimes more). If you're prepared for this ahead of time, we're confident it won’t affect your enjoyment of the trip.
Talking about the weather is a national pastime in Scotland, where the climate is famously unpredictable and dramatic. Summers are generally mild but can change rapidly due to its northern latitude, maritime climate and mountainous landscape. Microclimates can bring sun, wind, fog, sleet and rain—all in the same day (or even the same hour!). Some days may be cold and rainy from morning until night, while an unexpected heatwave can send temperatures soaring. Be sure to pack warm layers and waterproof gear for each day of your trip.
