Alessandro Fusaro
Alessandro Fusaro
In another life, Alessandro may have been a snake charmer. He's so dang charming, he'll have you falling in love in no time. Just listen to him wax prophetic about biscotti and sunsets. Mama mia! Conveniently for Alessandro, falling in love is precisely what he wants you to do—though he claims it's his country—Italy—he wants you to love. A self-proclaimed "Proud European," Alessandro is a Backroads Trip Expert in Sicily (he also leads trips in Tuscany). He loves to crush hills and build bonds with guests (to see just how serious he is about this, see his post Being A Leader) He's also pretty darn smart, holding a master's in computer science engineering. Immediately after graduate school, however, Alessandro realized he was not meant to "spend his life in a neon-lighted room, in front of a computer, programming." Like many Backroads leaders, he had a different vision for his life. We're so happy he did!

Tuscany's Montalcino

Nowadays Montalcino is a popular tourist destination, with people coming from all over the world to taste its wines: authentic Brunello wine cannot be produced anywhere but within its city limits.

Spinning vs. Cycling

Is spinning a good training for a biking trip? Will it make you strong enough to face the demanding hills of the Canary Islands? I was curious about this topic and I tried to investigate a little bit. I eventually found all the answers I was looking for when I met an extraordinary sporty couple: Andrea and Caterina.

Rhode Rash Team

During my time in Tuscany, I led the Backroads biking trip several times but I have never had the feeling I was repeating something. I just love being with people and getting to know their stories: that's the main reason why I applied for this job in the first place and that's also why every trip is so unique.

Being a Leader

The expectations I had about being a Backroads trip leader when I first applied for the position were far from reality. In the first place, I thought the job was about being a simple tour guide with a little activity, but what it is all about is much more than that.
